For the longest time that I can remember a dear friend of mine wanted to make a career in sports. His parents were against it so didn’t pursue. Studied management, took a regular job and over time became frustrated. The resentment making him hate his job, becoming bitter, blaming his parents for not believing in his ability. The bitterness percolated in all his relations, making everyone miserable around him. The saga went on for 10 years.
Then Divine Intervention!. He gets an opportunity to work in Sydney.
Now Australia, as we all know is where most of the best sportsmen come from. No No. He didn’t become a player, he was too old for that. But one of his colleagues saw him play and asked him to become a part time coach in his son’s school. He grabbed it as soon as it was offered, wondering all the time why he didn’t think of this before.
Things started falling in place. Now he works on his job. Makes money. Plays his favourite game. Coaches his tricks. The children in awe of him. He happy. Makes silly jokes like before. Seeing him like this his spouse, parents, friends all happy.
Oh you think this is happy ending. No. I would say happy ending would be when he becomes a national coach and then his team plays in international leagues and wins. That would be like a perfect movie end. WoW!!!. He is probably going to kill me for this.
Anyway the whole point for writing this story was to emphasise how important your own happiness, your mental well being is. You can’t pour from an empty cup, can you?
There are times when things might not go the way we planned, don’t indulge in self pity for too long. You have got to find a way to bring peace to yourself and not live in misery. No body likes to be around a bitter person.
Like the existence of a yawn or teardrop’s that is contagious
There is a smile which is contagious
Laughter which is contagious
N Yes, Happiness which is contagious
Become the person who spreads happiness not seek. And if by putting yourself first, people judge and call you selfish. Tell them what I keep saying:
“I can’t keep others happy, if I am not HAPPY”.
